Suzanne Mikkelson

Suzanne E. Mikkelson, Ph.D., LMFT, has been an EMDRIA Approved Consultant since 2011. She is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and an AAMFT Approved Supervisor. Suzanne and her husband David (a retired US Army Chaplain, LMFT, and AAMFT Approved Supervisor) are in private practice together at Hill City Counseling and Consulting, LLC in Lynchburg, VA. They train and supervise a fantastic clinical team of licensed practitioners, licensed residents, and graduate interns. As an EMDR trainer, Suzanne loves to help clinicians feel comfortable making the clinical shift from reliance on talk therapy to the quieter but highly effective internal processing that happens with EMDR and the brain’s powerful healing capacity. Suzanne’s clinical expertise is trauma, PTSD, couples and families, spiritual issues, and working with military and missionary clients. She is an international speaker and presenter on trauma, military issues, empathy, and emotion regulation. Suzanne and David have 3 adult sons and 6 fabulous grandchildren. She loves to travel the world, hike, read Scripture, ride on the Blue Ridge Parkway, and spend quality time with family and friends. She is honored to be part of Thrive’s EMDR instructional team.
